This past weekend the YourJet venture team flew the YourJet Baron to Wellington, Florida to meet with Richard Kane, CEO of Coastal Aviation Software. Richard and his wife Susan were so cordial and availed to us their guesthouse. They live in an aviation community with a grass landing strip. What an experience that was.
We departed Bowman Field at about 1330 on Friday, November 2nd and were able to fly non-stop to Wellington. The flight was uneventful but the taxi to Richard’s hangar was anything but! Every now and then one has an experience in an airplane, some harrowing and some not, that is destined to never be forgotten. Landing on the “damp” grass runway was a breeze; but the wet, soggy and narrow taxiways replete with propeller blade-bending hazards conspired with our heavy twin engine airplane to make me focus intently as the airplane slogged its way to a safe perch on Richard’s tarmac. It was nerve wracking. I am glad to report that our departure taxi was much easier since the taxiways had dried out considerably and my airplane “four-wheeling” skills had improved. The short, soft field takeoff was really fun, too.
The YourJet team was very engaged in October. The month began with our introduction to the Louisville business community and presentation of our company at the Venture Club of Louisville at their monthly meeting. We were cordially received and many stayed around afterwards to find out more.
YourJet is delighted that the advertising agency, Red7e, has thrown in with us to help with brand development and advertising direction. We are intrigued with the style and creativity on exhibit there. They’re funny, too.
For the first weekend of October, Suzanne and I, hosted some friends from Canada, Jean-Christophe Lamy and Marie-Claude Douville. Since they had never visited Kentucky, we took them to Keeneland for the opening of the fall meet. Marie-Claude liked the horses a lot and Jean-Christophe, well, Kentucky Bourbon is an acquired taste.
We also introduced them to Louisville “Weird” culture on a night out on Bardstown Road.
Later in the month, I met with Paul Schulte of Horizon Research in an effort to focus and refine our marketing efforts. This will prove to be important as we develop our value proposition and advance our startup plan.
And, lastly, today is election day in Kentucky. The results have implications for our company—I’ll tell you why next time.
Let’s keep pushing…
